Red Army Monument in Vienna

Strolling through the city of Vienna, you can see various buildings of great importance, and one of them is the Monument to the Heroes of the Red Army, which is one of the most outstanding in the central area. Specifically, it is located in Schwarzenbergplatz, near the Schwarzenberg Palace in the city and the Vienna Museum.
This monument was unveiled in 1945 and is made of white marble, with a truly spectacular semicircular colonnade. A soldier about 12 meters tall can be seen, representing the Red Army, with numerous details to observe.
The purpose of this monument was to commemorate the Soviet soldiers who died during the Battle of Vienna, which took place within the Second World War and in which some 17,000 soldiers lost their lives. The soldier can be seen holding the Soviet flag and, in his hand, a golden shield with the Soviet Coat of Arms.
Without a doubt, it represents an important moment, since after the battle the city of Vienna was under Soviet control from April 14, 1945. It is one of the many symbols still remaining in Vienna related to the war, and one of the attractions that visitors can discover. It is one of the reminders of the liberation of the people of Vienna from the Nazis by the Soviets.
